John Widdowson CBE, New College Durham

John joined New College Durham in August 1998, having previously worked as Vice Principal at Cambridge Regional College for ten years.  Prior to entering Further Education, John worked as a lawyer in Local Government.

As Principal, John has been keenly interested in developing the College’s role in the community, extending the range of activities and partnerships through which the College works and he Chairs the County Durham Area Steering Group for Aimhigher.  Nationally, he is Chair of the Mixed Economy Group of colleges offering significant amounts of Higher Education and is a Board Member of the Association of Colleges and the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).

John was made a CBE in June 2010.
