Colin Wyatt, Associate Director, CIHE

Colin Wyatt

Colin Wyatt is an independent consultant and Non Executive Director, who focuses on business development, knowledge and technology transfer in academic, industry and healthcare organisations. He is working with CIHE as Director of Business Affairs on the formulation and implementation of strategy and its commercial practices.

Until recently, Colin was the Director of Business Development at Imperial College London. Over five years he built a Business Development function which identified, created and managed strategic research and commercial relationships with global industry partners across the University’s medical, scientific and technological areas of expertise. He and his team were instrumental in building Imperial’s profile as an international exemplar of industry – academia collaboration and in increasing its industry funded research revenue from £28m to £43m per annum.

Prior to Imperial, Colin worked in the commercial Life Sciences sector for over twenty five years, both for pharmaceutical companies and as a management consultant to many pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical devices companies. Before joining the Imperial, Colin was Vice President of Cambridge Pharma Consultancy, where he was Consulting Leader of the Commercial and R&D Strategy Practice. He previously held senior roles in Ernst & Young Consulting (Head of European R&D Practice), IBM (Head of European Life Science Consulting), PA Consulting, ICL and Eli Lilly

Colin has a 2nd MB and MA in Natural Sciences (Physiology) from the University of Cambridge and a PhD in Medical Science from the University of London (Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine). He is a Fellow of Institute of Business Consulting and Chartered Management Institute, a Fellow of the Institute of Directors and a Chartered Management Consultant. He is also a Licensed Practitioner of Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Colin was a Non Executive Director at Ixico Ltd, a medical image analysis company. He has been a member of the Management Boards of InnovationRCA and of the TSB’s Creative Industries Knowledge Transfer Network. He was also the Secretariat of the London Science and Industry Council (Catalyst) and a member of Imperial College’s Commercialisation Advisory Board, the IDEA League’s Knowledge Transfer and Innovation Group, the Russell Group’s Enterprise and Innovation Committee and the Advisory Board of Science Business. He was also a member of the CBI’s London Council.
